Who these terms are between

These terms are between you and Joshua Mason, an independent developer based in the United Kingdom trading as CertAlert (“CertAlert”, “I”, “we”). Contact address: Unit 82701, PO Box 92, Cardiff, CF11 1NB, United Kingdom. By installing or using the CertAlert app or this website you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

CertAlert is a one-person operation. That means quick, direct support, but also that the service is provided on a best-effort basis as described below.

What CertAlert is, and is not

CertAlert helps you record landlord safety certificates and related evidence, shows you when they are due, and produces a summary you can share. It is a record-keeping tool.

CertAlert is not:

legal, regulatory or professional advice;
a guarantee that any property is compliant with any law or regulation;
a substitute for the certificates themselves or for qualified engineers, assessors and inspectors;
a rent, repairs, tax or tenancy-management service.

Legal requirements vary across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and change over time. You are responsible for knowing and meeting the requirements that apply to your properties and tenancies. Reminders and status indicators depend entirely on the dates and details you enter.

Your account and data

You do not need an account to use the Free tier. Pro cloud backup requires signing in with an email address you control. You are responsible for keeping access to that email secure and for the accuracy of the information you enter.

You retain ownership of the content you add to CertAlert. You grant us the limited rights needed to store, back up and display it to you and to generate proof packs at your request. Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.

Do not upload content you do not have the right to store, including other people’s personal data without a lawful basis.

Subscriptions

CertAlert Pro is a recurring subscription purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play at the price shown in the store at the time of purchase (currently £4.99 per month or £39.99 per year in the UK).

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
You manage and cancel subscriptions through your Apple or Google account settings, not through us.
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies.
If a subscription lapses, Pro features stop, reminders are cancelled, and the app returns to Free limits. Your data stays on your device.

We may change prices for future periods; the store will notify you and ask you to agree before any increase applies.

Acceptable use

You agree not to reverse engineer, resell, or interfere with the app or our services, not to attempt to access other users’ data, and not to use the service for anything unlawful.

Availability and changes

We work hard to keep CertAlert available but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may add, change or remove features. If we withdraw a paid feature you have subscribed to, you may be entitled to a pro-rated refund via the store.

If CertAlert is ever discontinued, we will give at least 30 days’ notice in the app and by email to cloud-backup users so you can export your proof packs. Your data on your device is unaffected.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that, we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on the app as a source of legal compliance, for missed renewals, fines, penalties, failed sales or lettings, or for loss of data you have not backed up. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Ending the relationship

You can stop using CertAlert at any time. Settings → Delete account removes your on-device data and, if you use cloud backup, your account and backed-up files. You can also uninstall the app. A Pro subscription is managed in your Apple or Google account, not through Delete account. We may suspend or end access if you breach these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales, without affecting any consumer rights you have to bring a claim where you live in the UK.
